Frequently Asked Questions

Does PhysicalMind still offer basic Pilates certification?

Yes and no. We do have Teacher Trainers and they are offering the courses that we started developing in 1991. This includes Matwork (usually two weekends) and Apparatus (3 months to a year).

What does PMI offer professional Pilates teachers?

Everything you want to know about Pilates but were afraid to ask is located here. Continuing Education is accessible and we have original options.  PMI certified instructors will choose Vectors, the new course which was years in development.

Do you offer Teacher training?

Go here to find out how a studio owner can acquire our materials to train new teacher in Matwork and Apparatus. If you are approved, then you train and we certify. And of course that’s ideal because it’s a one-time purchase and the studio can use it forever. We have a Bridge program and an Amnesty program. The Bridge program is when you’ve already been certified by a reputable company. We have a questionnaire about your teaching before you are approved to take the Bridge exam. Once you pass the exam, your certification does not need to be renewed for three years. We give you a code for access to the Bridge exam because not everyone is accepted. We also have an Amnesty program for people who were certified, but allowed their continuing education to lapse.

What is the history behind the company?

The History of PhysicalMind Institute is very educational for people who have no idea that Joe Pilates died in 1967 and was broke and miserable, that Romana trademarked the name Pilates, which was never used by Joe—he called it Contrology. Then, in 1993, we filed a Trademark Cancellation in the US Trademark and Patent Office Finally, after a 10-year legal battle led by Ken Endelman, CEO of Balanced Body, this fraudulent trademark was canceled on October 19, 2000 by Judge Cedarbaum in New York Southern District Court. And that is one of the most important things to know about Pilates.

How do i take the exams?

Exams are on a site called Quia. Your results are available immediately. Email us if you have a grade of 75 or higher and we will issue your renewal certificate. For new teachers, the official document which says you are certified has a two-year expiration. So continuing education every two years is required. Now, of course, it’s Vectors. And that’s about it.

What is circular pilates?

This program is for continuing education, and, most importantly, it’s what people need today. Our opinion is that very few people need supine floor work, particularly forward flexion, which is prevalent in the original Matwork.

What if i am a dancer?

We have a separate tab for Dance because we have people like Emily Zachary Smith, and, of course West Side Dance. Marika Molnar PT pioneered the Dance Medicine field. Many dancers use our products, particularly the MINIS™ but also Parasetter® and Tye4X™.

What is 80bites?

80Bites—the new science, the science of hormones, and is the solution to this obesity problem. And as far as products go in the store, they’re very easily identified. They’re also sold on Amazon. We ship all over the world, so does Amazon, I think, at least most places where you buy it. And our fulfiller, Shipbob, ships everywhere: we’re shipping regularly to Brazil and Japan and London and Germany and Moscow so there’s no problem with that. Of course, all shipping now is more expensive because of COVID, and taking longer, but everybody’s in the same boat, frankly, and there’s nothing we can do. Fortunately, all our products, with the exception of Parasetter, are tiny and they weigh nothing—2, 3, 4, 8 ounces. The Parasetter weighs only 8 ounces but it’s long, it’s 40 inches.

What are the tye4® differences?

Today, everyone is looking at TYE4® Line. It’s the next big thing, as they say. We have three versions: the TYE4X™, designed to wrap comfortably around female figures; the New TYE4®, which we call the Huggy; and then the original, which is the same with less resistant blue bungees.

So that’s everything you really need to know about PhysicalMind Institute and why we transitioned from basic certification to products and programming because studios now need more! We were online before COVID; we knew people needed a wearable Reformer, given the size and the cost of the traditional apparatus. We try to innovate as did Joe to provide solutions for people whether they’re moving or seated.
